Home is Where the Art Is

by | Jun 20, 2016

Did you know that the east end is home to several incredibly talented artists, many of whom live in Blackburn Hamlet?

It’s true. Blackburn Hamlet artists like Virginia Dupuis, Beata Jakubek, Zygmunt Jakubek and Joyce Buckley were recently featured as part of the Orleans Art Tour held across the east end this month.

Each year, on the second weekend in June, several talented east end artists give the public a rare look at their art in as intimate a setting as it gets – the artist’s home.

It’s inspiring to discover art that is literally in one’s own backyard. It’s also important to support our local artists just the same way we support our local businesses. We can do this by visiting their events, local art galleries featuring their work (including the Blackburn Hamlet library branch which features different artists’ works on a rotating basis), and buying their art pieces.

Home is where the art is and it’s important to ensure that our lives and our communities continue to be enriched by the presence and work of our local artists.
